Saffron is one of the most precious and valued cultural spice of our planet. The saffron crop starts in autumn when the purple striped flowers are collected in the early morning. The flowers contain three crimson red stigmas. The perigynous of the blooming flower are pulled out manually, from which saffron is extracted. Over 170.000 flowers are needed to produce one kilogram of saffron, which is the reason to the high price.
